CSA Camp Descriptions

Read the 2018 Crusader Summer Academy descriptions. Participants can choose from sports, enrichment and education offerings. Note: 9th graders attending camp must be accepted and enrolled at Lutheran North.
 
SPORTS CAMPS

Baseball
June 18-22: 12:30-3:30 PM
Boys: entering grades 4-9
$70

The CSA Baseball Camp focuses on the fundamentals of baseball with individualized instruction. The players will be evaluated and placed in age and skill appropriate groups in order to better serve the individual player. The CSA Baseball Camp will also instruct the players on position-play through a variety of fun clinics in order to build a firm foundation and knowledge of the sport. Players will participate in daily conditioning and strength development. As part of the program, the player’s abilities will be evaluated and each player will receive a skills report card at the end of the week.

If your son is interested in improving his skills and gaining knowledge of how to play the game, the CSA Baseball Camp is the place for him!

Campers should bring cleats, baseball mitt, and a water bottle.


Boys Basketball
June 11-15: 12:30-3:30 PM
Boys: entering grades 4-9

$70

The CSA Basketball Camp focuses on skill development, learning the fundamentals that make you a better player, and learning to compete in order to bring you to the next level. Good sportsmanship will always be stressed by our experienced coaching staff. Our staff will instruct players individually as well as in group settings on the fundamentals of the game. All players will participate in supervised game situations and contests that will push participants to realize their full potential. As part of the program, the player’s abilities will be evaluated and each player will receive a skills report card at the end of the week.

If your son is interested in improving his skills and gaining knowledge of how to play the game, the CSA Boys' Basketball Camp is the place for him!

Campers should bring sneakers and a water bottle.


Cheerleading
June 18-22: 8:30–11:30 AM
Girls: entering grades 2–9

$65

“Hey Crusader Fans Cheering in the Stands!” The CSA Cheerleading Camp is geared for girls in grades 2 through 9. The CSA Cheerleading staff will focus on the development of each individual in a positive, fun-filled atmosphere. Whether a beginner or experienced, the CSA Cheerleading camp offers your daughter the opportunity to learn new cheers and develop her skills in the areas of jumps, dance, teamwork and coordination, while at the same time building her self-confidence and encouraging the development of outgoing personality and leadership skills. As part of the program, each cheerleader will be evaluated and receive a skills report card at the end of the week.

Campers should bring a water bottle.


Dance
June 18-22: 12:30–3:30 PM
Girls: entering grades 2–9
$65

The CSA Dance staff is excited to offer this camp for all girls in grades 2-9. Your dancer will be introduced to a variety of dance styles, including ballet, jazz and hip-hop. No experience is necessary. Dancers will be grouped according to age and ability.

If your daughter is interested in dancing and would like to have a great fun-filled week, the CSA Dance Camp is the place for her!

Campers should bring a water bottle.
 

Girls Basketball
June 25-29: 8:30-11:30 AM 

Girls: entering grades 4-6

The CSA Girls' Basketball Camp focuses on the skills of basketball with individualized instruction. The CSA Basketball staff wants their campers to learn, compete, and have fun doing so in order to bring your daughter’s game to the next level. The CSA Girls' Basketball camp is, first and foremost, a skills program. Teaching stations and drill stations are given each day, with an emphasis on fundamental skill development, individual improvement, team concepts, building confidence and good sportsmanship. Ball handling and shooting stations are given daily, placing extra emphasis on these core fundamentals. As part of the program, the player’s abilities will be evaluated and each player will receive a skills report card at the end of the week.

If your daughter is interested in improving her skills and gaining knowledge of how to play the game, the CSA Girls' Basketball Camp is the place for her!

Campers should bring sneakers and a water bottle.


Advanced Girls Basketball
June 25-29: 12:30-3:30 PM

Girls: entering grades 7-9
$70

The CSA Girls' Basketball Camp is based entirely on meeting the individual needs of every camper. All girls will be evaluated by age, size, experience and ability, in order give them the attention they need. Daily individual shooting drills will help your daughter improve her shot and become more comfortable taking the shots when the game is on the line. Daily emphasis is on improving the fundamental skills of the game. Team play is also developed through daily games and contests. The CSA Basketball staff wants their campers to learn, compete, and have fun doing so in order to bring your daughter’s game to the next level. As part of the program, the player’s abilities will be evaluated and each player will receive a skills report card at the end of the week.

If your daughter is interested in improving her skills and gaining knowledge of how to play the game, the CSA Girls' Basketball Camp is the place for her!

Rookie Sports
June 4-8: 8
:30-11:30 AM
Coed: entering grades 1-4

The CSA Rookie Camp is designed specifically for boys and girls entering grades 1-4 who love, or would like to learn more about playing sports. Your future All-Star will be immersed in the key fundamental skills in a variety of team and individual sports including baseball, basketball, football, soccer, floor hockey, lacrosse, tennis, and table tennis. A strong emphasis is placed on having fun, developing team camaraderie, learning the rules, learning to be coached, and improving hand-eye coordination and motor skills. Basic skills are taught and reinforced in drills, game situations, and full game action. Team play, friendly competition, sportsmanship, patience, self-control and respect for the rules and for each other will be stressed.

If your son or daughter is interested in improving his/her athletic skills and having a great, fun filled week, the CSA Rookie Camp is the place to be!

Soccer
June 11-15: 8:30-11:30 AM 
Coed: entering grades 1-9
$70

The CSA Soccer Camp focuses on all skill levels. Players are grouped by age and ability. Special attention is given to instruction in fundamentals and individual skill development. Team play tactics are developed daily in game situations. Players are taught the basics of all positions in individual drills and team competition. The CSA soccer staff will use their expertise to make sure that your camper learns the sport and has fun while doing it. Come join us for this exciting and fun-filled week.

If your child is interested in learning or improving skills and knowledge of the sport, the CSA Soccer Camp is the place for him/her!

Campers should bring cleats, shin guards, and a water bottle.
 

Tennis
June 18-22: 8:30–11:30 AM 
Coed: entering grades 4-9

The CSA Tennis Camp will provide your child with all the resources necessary to reach his/her tennis potential. After a thorough warm up, the campers will work through the core components of tennis, including stroke production and drilling. The experienced CSA tennis staff will use individualized instruction to ensure that all campers have an opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge of the sport. Sportsmanship, patience and self-control will be stressed.

If your child is interested in learning or improving skills and knowledge of the sport, the CSA Tennis Camp is the place for him/her!

Campers should bring a racquet, sneakers, and water bottle.


Volleyball 
June 4-8: 8:30-11:30 AM 
Coed: entering grades 4-9

The CSA Volleyball Camp offers all girls and boys complete instruction, according to ability level, in the fundamentals and finer points of volleyball. The program includes individual skills development, team strategy and competition, all taught through drills, scrimmages, and competitive inter- and intra-squad games. As part of the program, the player’s abilities will be evaluated and each player will receive a skills report card at the end of the week. 

If your child wishes to learn new skills or hone the skills he/she already has to be able to play on elementary school or high school levels, the CSA Volleyball Camp is the place for him/her!

Campers should bring sneakers and a water bottle.


 
 
ENRICHMENT AND EDUCATION CAMPS

Apples, Macs, and iPads
June 25-29: 8:30–11:30 AM 

Coed: entering grades 4-8
$75

A fun, challenging and hands-on computer camp, that will enhance your child’s understanding of how to properly use technology and learn about the diverse applications being used in the world today. Your campers will become skilled at using the following applications: GarageBand, iMovie, Comic Life, MakerBot printshop, and several more on Apple iMacs and iPads.

GarageBand – Students will learn how to play, record and edit music!
iMovie - Produce movies and Hollywood style trailers.
Comic Life – Use your own photos or create new images to generate your own creative comic strips.
MakerBot printshop – Dabble in creating and printing 3D designs.
 

The Art of Photography
June 11-15: 8:30-11:30 AM
Coed: entering grades 4-9
$75

This camp will give kids a chance to learn the basics of photography and photo editing. We will be taking photos in studio and outdoors. Ipads will be supplied, but campers are welcome to bring their own camera if they wish. Each child will receive a USB drive containing all of their photos, as well as prints of select projects. 
 

Baking Festival in the Kitchen
June 4-8; 12:30-3:30 PM
Coed; entering grades 4-9
$75

Come and have a great time learning how to make a variety of cookies, cakes, pies, candy and breakfast sweets! Monday: mouth-watering cookies; Tuesday: cakes, cupcakes and cupcake pops; Wednesday: pies; Thursday: doughnuts and sticky buns; Friday: Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.
 

Movies, Music and More (Multimedia) 
June 18-22; 12:30-3:30 PM
Coed; entering grades 4-9
$75

Using Garageband and iMovie, campers will get an introduction to the art of recording and editing their own music and short films. The camp will include individual and group projects. iPads will be supplied, and eat camper will receive a USB drive containing their projects at the end of the week.
 

Pens, Pencils and Paint
June 18-22: 8:30–11:30 AM 

Coed: entering grades 2-9

Calling all Picassos and Michelangelos! The CSA art teacher will allow your artist to take a tour through many different types of art media and creating. Some techniques that will be explored are painting, printmaking, and drawing. It will be a fun-filled environment in which students can arrive with a little or a lot of knowledge of the visual arts. Art projects will be adapted to meet the levels of students and are new each day. This is a great opportunity for your artist to build a portfolio, learn and improve skills, or just have fun creating something to hang on the kitchen refrigerator.


Playing with Food in the Kitchen (Cooking)
June 4-8: 8:30-11:30 AM 

Coed: entering grades 4-9
$75

Come learn and have fun in the kitchen. We will learn about food and then go into the kitchen and experience first hand how to make what we learned about. Each day will be a different topic: Monday, breakfast; Tuesday, lunch; Wednesday, supper; Thursday, appetizers; and Friday, desserts.


Playing in the Mud! (Ceramics)
June 11-15: 12:30–3:30 PM 

Coed: entering grades 2-9
$75

Come and get your hands dirty making awesome 3-D artwork out of clay. Campers will be instructed how to use a variety of building and sculpting techniques in this fun-filled week of ceramics. Students will also spin a pot or bowl on the potter’s wheel and finish their new creation with glaze in the fiery kiln. Ceramic projects will be adapted to meet the levels of students and are new each day. This is a great opportunity for your artist to create something new with their hands, create a gift for a family member, or just have fun getting dirty in the mud. (Please note: Some projects will need to be picked up the following week at your convenience.)

 

Band/Music
June 4-8: 8:30–11:30 AM 

Coed: entering grades 6-9

The CSA Music Camp is for students entering grade 6-9th grade. Campers will have a chance to take part in band, choir and other musical skills in varied practices and activities. The end of the
week will feature a concert to show off their skills.

Robotics and Drones
June 25-29: 12:30-3:30 PM 

Coed: entering grades 4-9
$80

The CSA Robotics Camp is designed for students entering grades 4-9 who have an interest in robotics and drones.  During this fun-filled week, campers will be introduced the world of robotics.  Using LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kits, campers will design, keep notes, build, program, and test their robots. Campers will also be introduced to programing and using drones during this week of exploration and fun.


Drama
June 25-29: 12:30–3:30 PM 

Coed: entering grades 4-9
$70

The CSA Drama Camp was created for students entering grades 4-9 who have an interest in the performing arts.  Drama campers will work alongside experienced actors all while having fun on and off the stage. Through the use of acting games, campers will learn about being on stage, stage presence, movement, costuming, vocalization, as well as the technical aspects of theater. At the week's conclusion, we hope to put on a short production for friends and family.
